When it arrives we can begin practices.

Wednesdays:  4:45pm - 8:15pm

Air Time Practices at Armory Cancelled

We learned on 10/24/08 from staff that two groups cannot share the same time there. And - rental prices are apparently going up

 

Beginning today, October 25, 2008 - as ideas are communicated to us, we will post them here daily.

Our role will be to investigate leads with immediate contact, visits and proposals.

Jane Farrell has constructed an elevated runway, with plant box. It & our mats are ready.

1-  Paul Bergeron of the Concord Armory said that he will try to rework an arrangement with those in charge of rental.

2- Steven Santos of Simply Circus said that he is searching for a more permanent location & would like to work with us.

We are Air Time Athletics - a USA Track & Field New England Club, located in Natick, MA.

We helped introduce Girls & Women's Pole Vault in the US in the early 1990's.

Until June we shared space at the Velocity Track area in Sudbury. When the Velocity Program turfed over the area we used we began a search for new space.

Our needs are:

   10 one hour practice sessions weekly.

        Late afternoon and evenings.

        3 week days. One weekend day.

    Space needed:   

        -130' straightaway for a runway & mats

        {we have an elevated & rubberized role down runway}

        We have pole vault mats. {easily stored on side walls}

         32' of width for pole vault mats.

         20' height of ceiling.

We would appreciate your ideas and suggestions.

To: Air Time Athletes, Families and Friends.

From: Jeff & Abby Robbins.

Re: Latest Information about our Search for Indoor Space.

 

I. On June 11th we found out that the Velocity / Fieldhouse Location in Sudbury,

    which we had used for 3 years, was no longer available.

 

II. Phone calls, emails and Newsletters have communicated the dimensions

     of the space we need.

 

     Roughly, the basic dimensions are: 140' of length;  40' width; 20' ceiling height.

     We have mats that can be set up and moved out of the way at each practice.

     If the space we find allows, we will install a "plant box" in the floor.

     It can have a cover so other activities can take place when we are not there.

.    {We installed 2 plant boxes at Velocity. They are still in the floor under current surfaces}

     If we must operate without installing a plant box, we are prepared to build a portable,

     "elevated runway and plant box structure". It too can be taken apart and stored out of the way

     when we are not practicing.

 

III. Progress to-date:

     A. We have visited Devens. MA - the site of "old Fort Devens" with others from USATF.

          The development of that project is two years away.

 

     B. Air Time people have contacts with: Wellesley College, Tufts, local secondary schools,

          Pine Manor College; some real estate people; and area Sports Complexes like Forekicks in Marlboro.

 

     C. We have been trying to visit Pine Manor and assess options. Their AD has called us back.

        

     D. Otherwise - 1/ No locations have surfaced that we can visit.

                          2/ No existing facilities and programs {such as Tufts University} have responded to our contacts

                             with a positive indication of an arrangement.

                           3/ Existing Y and Boys and Girls Clubs have not responded to inquiries.

 

 IV. Thinking ahead ---

      A. We will hold practices in Natick - outdoors - during September.

      B. We are ready to visit and talk with anyone about and exchange; rental; or "fix-up" and use.

I just talked to Kenny Lee at Forekicks in Marlborough.  They are opening up a huge indoor sports facility with volleyball and basketball courts and soccer and lacrosse fields, all indoors.  He said they could accommodate a pole vault space and if they had known about it earlier they could have installed it during their building construction

    Length:  8' beyond PV mats + PV mat length 24' + 100 - 120' for runway {we have roll down runway + 8' at start of runway = 140'

    Width: 12' above mats + 12' below mats {for run backs, & warm up gymnastic mats} + 20' mat width = 44'

    Height: Minimum Ceiling Height over runway and mat area = 24'

We are in the process of building a new complex

that will be ready sometime mid 2009
